COURSE DESCRIPTION
In this continuing course, students build on their theoretical foundation of general sciences and practices in cosmetology to increase proficiency in hair cutting and styling on live models, with attention to professionalism, client consultation, safety, and infection control. Students are trained in safe chemical processes related to permanent waves, relaxers, lightening, and coloring hair. In addition, students learn to care for skin, hands, and feet, developing experience in providing facials, manicures, pedicures, and nail enhancements. Students will be introduced to a business management unit with a focus on managing the salon. Cosmetology II Competencies required by the state. *It may be necessary for students who have lost their kits to purchase a replacement (cost not to exceed $300.00).

FINAL EXAM EXEMPTION
Procedure is followed as set forth in the Student Handbook. To be exempt from final exams Cosmetology II students must have a minimum of 75/C (by the administrative cut-off date) and have passed their state board exam to receive an exam exemption for the end of the year.

MAKE-UP POLICY
It is the student’s responsibility to turn the appropriate notes to the main office when s/he returns to school.
Students are responsible for seeing the teacher the first school day upon return from an absence.It is the student’s responsibility to get homework assignments on days that are missed in class, either by contacting the teacher by email while absent or the school day on which he/she returns to school.
Failure to make-up work within five (5) school days or at a time determined within those five days by the teacher, will result in the loss of a grade. If student is absent on the day of a test, the student will take the test the next class period he/she returns to class. The make-up test may be different from the original test.
If a student is present when an assignment is given but absent on the day it is due, he/she must turn it in the day he/she returns to school. If a student is present for all material covered on a test and/or quiz and is absent the class immediately preceding the test and/or quiz, the student will be required to take the test and/or quiz, as scheduled if they are present.
GENERAL CLASSROOM RULES
All students are expected to read and understand the Student Code of Conduct & Handbook given at the beginning of the year.
ACADEMIC CONDUCT
Students are expected to perform honestly on any assigned schoolwork or tests. The following actions are prohibited:
- Cheating on a test or assigned work by giving, receiving, offering, and/or soliciting information.
- Plagiarizing by copying the language, structure, idea, and/or thoughts of another.
- Falsifying statements on any assigned schoolwork, tests, or other school documents.
Consequences may result with a zero for the assigned work/test(s), loss of credit for graduation, removal from a program, or other disciplinary action as deemed appropriate by administration.
ELECTRONIC USE POLICY
Students must abide by the Rowanty Technology Use policy, as outlined in the Rowanty Student Handbook. Any violations of this policy will be reported immediately to the IT Department and/or Administration, and appropriate action will be taken.
Students are not allowed use of any electronic devices within the classroom without express permission from the instructor. Once the instructor has provided permission to use an electronic device, students are required to follow the guidelines, rules, and procedure outlined by the instructor at all times. Any violation of this protocol will result in the loss of the privilege to use electronic devices within the classroom. The violation may also result in the loss of credit for the assignment in which the device was being used. The violation may also result in a report to the IT Department and/or Administration.
Electronic devices should be stored appropriately when not in use. If an instructor sees an electronic device during a time when no permission for use has been provided, then the device will be taken and appropriate action will be taken. Appropriate action may include, but not be limited to, confiscation for the remainder of the class or day, confiscation until a parent picks up the device, and/or delivery of the device to Rowanty administration.

- Students are to come directly to the classroom. Three tardies will result in a write up.
- Upon entering class, all class materials (textbook, notebook, pencil, etc.) should be taken out. Backpacks and other items are to be stored in the designated area in the classroom.
- Cell phones are to be put in the pockets provided. Phones may be charged in the pockets ONLY.
- Homework is to be turned in upon entering the class.
- Textbooks are not to be left in the classroom.
- Notes should be taken during all lessons.

- Dress code in Student Handbook to be followed in the cosmetology class at all times.
- Enclosed shoes must be worn at ALL times at Rowanty Technical Center. (Athletic shoes for Cosmetology students.)
- Respect yourself, others, and school property.
- Students are expected to come straight to class upon arrival.
- Come to class prepared (i.e. kit, paper, pencil, textbook, positive attitude).
- Safety rules will be followed at ALL times.
- Sanitation standards will be followed at ALL times.
- Protective equipment will be worn when required.
- Scrubs must be worn in lab.
- NO food, gum, or drinks in the classroom or lab. Closed water bottle is acceptable in classroom away from computers.
- Students will keep their work areas, lab, dispensary, classroom and locker room tidy and clean.
- Students are provided lockers and locks. All items left at school must fit in the locker and be secured with the lock. Lockers are school property and can be opened and inspected by school personnel at any time.

Monday through Friday (7:45am – 2:45pm) Mrs. Blankenship will be available to help students, as needed, with problems or special accommodations. Other availability may be arranged as needed.
